Whether you work for yourself, or for another, these success principles are time-tested and ring true.
- You’ll never live long enough to learn everything. Find yourself some good mentors. Read books written by those who came before you. Learn from their mistakes. I’ve been blessed to have had three great mentors. I would not be where I am today were it not for their tutelage and guidance.
- Always act with honor and integrity. That way, you’ll never have to wonder if you did the right thing. You only have one reputation. Guard it fiercely!
- Determine what you want out of life. Set goals. Then work voraciously until you achieve them. Hard work never killed anyone. Your income will be attributable to the revenue you generate or the value you provide.
- Don’t spend forever planning. Don’t be one of those people who constantly think and plan and ponder, yet never take action. Take action and move it forward!
- Don’t expect your plan to be complete before you start. When you’re moving in the right direction, the universe will present opportunities to you. Be prepared to modify your plan and walk through those opened doors!
- There will be setbacks. There will be obstacles. Things won’t go your way. When you get knocked down, get back up, brush yourself off, and plow through!
- Surround yourself with great people, both professionally and personally. Get rid of the negative people in your life, those who constantly doubt you and bring you down. You’ll accomplish more with 100 great people running with you and cheering you on, than one deadbeat chained to your leg.
- Take pride in your accomplishments. You’ll stand a little taller and people will notice!
- Pay it forward. Great mentors helped you get to where you are now. Reach back and help others climb the ladder.
- Don’t forget to take time to enjoy! Stop and smell the roses. Enjoy the company of good friends, family, and a spouse. Don’t live to work; work to live!
